  Hemingway lead me toward a world without boundaries, which mankind set for their own limitations rooted deep inside, the fear for unknown and the loneliness accompanied us all along the way.

  The story was quite a simple one, with clear and compact main line. It was set within four days, however, just as Roberto thought, he had lived his life to full.

  When allocated this task to blow the bridge, Roberto may never thought he would go through so many things as it actually did. Betrayal and trust, love and hatred, cowardice and bravery, lost and further lost…I can see from what Hemingway showed us that wars can be serious enough as so many lives were involved. Wars can also be so ridiculous as the so-called ‘success’ and ‘failure’ resulted from all those trifles. When magnified by the witted author, the process to the very end was not a heroic path with bloody thorns, but a very realistic and complicated one that every single action of every single participant counts. Sighs for how lives are deteriorated to death in such a humble way.

  I do believe in Hemingway’s greatness as being a writer for the lost generation. There is a feeling of the generous love for all human beings, regardless of their nationalities, religious beliefs or political position. I can see Hemingway’s softness behind the scenery of the cold carbines and his deep sorrow beneath his concise style. His sympathy for all mankind enabled him to give insight to how we lose our senses and become barbarians.
